ANTHONY WILSON , Founder and Chief Advisor, Proximity Risk & Assurance

Anthony-WilsonAnthony has over 30 years experience in senior corporate roles and has worked extensively with Boards, Senior Executives, Divisional Leadership teams, and their advisors. He is passionate about giving organisations the opportunity to be their best by adopting risk management practices that are ‘fit for purpose’ for their organisation and its current business maturity. Anthony’s engagement with risk management started early in his career as the senior manager in charge of recruitment, training & development for future leaders. He saw first hand the conflict Managers faced with the significant investment required in advertising for, interviewing, selecting, inducting, training and developing management trainees versus the much cheaper option of recruiting from within the business. This ‘risk-reward’ balance became a familiar theme over his career
.
After 20 years in various senior line manager and support executive roles, Anthony ended up as the General Manager – Risk and Safety in an organisation with almost 200,000 employees, approximately 24 million customer visits per week and around 40,000 contractors working in the business. This role fuelled Anthony’s appetite to know more about risk and lead to him completing his Masters Degree in Risk Management.
Additionally, his time as the Chief Audit Executive gives Anthony over 10 years of experience in the Risk & Assurance field.

Anthony is a non-executive director of the Woolworths Employee Credit Union (WECU) and is the Chair of the Governance and Remuneration  Committee. WECU’s range of product and services gives Anthony direct experience and insight into the challenges of providing good risk management in smaller financial institutions.
