Clare Payne specialises in the field of ethics in banking and finance. Clare commenced her career as an employment lawyer and subsequently managed the Integrity Office of a Global Investment Bank. Clare initiated – and is now a Director of The Banking and Finance Oath (thebfo.org), a Hippocratic-type Oath for the banking and finance industry.

Clare was awarded the Inaugural Ethics, Responsibility and Trust in Finance Prize by the Observatoire de la Finance, Geneva for her paper titled, ‘Ethics or Bust: Beyond Compliance and Good Marketing,’ written prior to the financial crisis in 2005.

Clare also holds the positions of Chief Operating Officer with Tobacco Free Portfolios and Consulting Fellow for Ethics in Banking and Finance with The Ethics Centre in Sydney, Australia. She was recognised as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2014. In 2015, Clare received the Industry Advocacy Award for Women in Financial Services from Money Management and Super Review.

Clare commenced her career as a lawyer having completed a Bachelor of Laws and Mass Communications. She is also an accomplished marathon swimmer, having swum solo around NYC (28.5 miles). Clare has raised significant funds for the not-for-profit sector through her sporting endeavours and now holds a position on the Board of Life Education Australia and is a Founder of Inform – The Soft Sand Shuffle – for youth mental health.
